The Northern section of the Manitoba Provincial Park, does not have 911. Nutimik Lake is located in this section and we as a community, have to pull together to help those in need. We have had many accidents in the area and some, unfortunately are fatal. In order to help families, it may require, search and rescue, fuel for boats, lodging, food, ambulance and so on. You can only imagine the expenses that took place, when Kevin went missing for 28 days. Because of Nancy and Brian they took their tragedy and turned it into a mission of saving lives. Brian and Nancy started the Kevin Howie Fund Raiser by holding and annual garage sale. These funds that were collected each year, are to help those in need. They also used this money to supply AED, blood pressure cuffs, first aid kits, CPR training, back boards, neck braces and much much more to help 7 lodges in the area! Again, with no 911, each small community helps those in need because of these supplies. A huge THANK YOU to the Howie’s for sharing their efforts in times of need.
Getting on in age, Nancy had informed the owners of Nutimik Lodge Carol and Dale Erickson that she could no longer hold the Annual Garage Sale. Not wanting to see the Fundraising stop Carol and Dale decided to hold the first Annual Kevin Howie Search and Rescue Fundraising Event at Nutimik Lake.
On August 12th, 2017 the first event was held with music by Project B, Hot Dogs and Drinks donated from, Winnipeg Old Country, Kub Bakery, Sysco, Pepsi, Coke, Lays, Old Dutch Chips. All the purchases of food and drinks were donated to the fund. There were prizes, a 50/50 that went well over $5000. The event was a success and we will continue with the fund raiser each year on the weekend after the August Long weekend.
