Harry Thiessen and Allison Baker-Thiessen are husband and wife who are very proud to be owners of Nutimik Lodge since October 2021.
Harry has come from many different backgrounds from working with cars, bobcats, loaders, construction, working on furnaces and air conditioners, working on hydro lines, doing landscaping to demolitions and even road construction.
Allison has a passion for children and spent 13 years working in the school system with Deaf and Hard of hearing students, behaviour and then with children with disabilities children. She truly misses working with each and everyone of them watching them grow and succeed and many different ways. It was challenging but rewarding at the same time.
With Allison having the summer months off and being bored in the summer and both of them loving to camp. Harry, Allison and their daughter Deneige have been seasonal camping out at in the Whiteshell for over 10 years. Prior to this Allison and her family had a cabin at Betula lake and know this provincial park as home. Harry and Allison decided to approach the past owners of Nutimik Lodge and see if they could run the restaurant. The past owners were glad to see the enthusiasm that we both brought forth and allowed them to do this. This is when the building got renamed Barkley’s Diner and the 6-foot mascot Barkley the sasquatch was brought in to Nutimik lake in 2019. We wanted to make this a family opportunity and allow our daughter Deneige to work with us and get her foot into the door to be able to understand responsibility, meet knew people and the learn importance of working.
As time went on the past owners of Nutimik Lodge approached both Harry and Allison and said you guys are fit for this. We want to give you the opportunity to purchase Nutimik Lodge and make it your family business. At this time, we as a family discussed and decided to purchase Nutimik Lodge. October, 2021 we were then proud owners of Nutimik lodge. Nestled within the North Whiteshell provincial park serving all of our amazing community members, customers, guests, new friends and family here at Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.
